Pictures!!!

If you haven't already seen them, here they are. Allll the photos from Christmas at Tyber. Hope you enjoy!

Tyber Wednesdays| Not Your Grandfather's Wednesdays

What? I don't know what that even means. Who cares, lets all go have a pint of Guinness (or other delicious brew) at Tyber Creek this Wednesday. There will be plenty to do and plenty of people to talk to about nothing, or something if you feel like it. Here is a break down by the wonderful Janis:

How this normally works

We meet at Tyber after volleyball at 7:30-7:45 we usually only have a few beers and some dinner and are gone by 9-9:30. Over the course of the day using the reply all function there is a series of emails about who’s in, who’s out and maybe a few jokes about people’s moms. It’s all in good fun. If you want off the list we’d be more than happy to let you off the hook if you ask or if you don’t show for several weeks- months you’ll just fall off the regular chain as part of natural selection.

I hope you can join us and of course feel free to bring a friend, roommate, coworker, significant other, but not your dog!

-j

so as you can see, there will be plenty to keep your brain off of work and your spirits high on this day, the day we celebrate the middle of the week. Why is it on Wednesdays? Because you need something to look forward to on Monday thru Wednesday and Friday is just too far away.

Cheers,

Eric

Tyber Memories

Just curious if anyone is interested in sharing any particular memories from Tyber Creek over the past while. I mean maybe it was that time that the drunk girl walked right in front of us while we were playing darts not too long ago. Or maybe it was the time that the Miller Lite girls came and harassed us by wanting us to answer questions about the 'Man-Law' commercials and we gave them the answers they were not looking for. Oh, later we found out that Ficker knew one of them. Perhaps it was the time that Mike was so crazy that he fell down the entire set of stairs. Wait, that never actually happened, but it might have! If you have any awesome pictures of Tyber Creek you can email them to me or Donnie and we'll post them. In fact, any action on this site would be nice. Hope everyone has a good weekend and continues to drink a lot of good beer. Did you know drinking good beer instead of swill helps the environment? I'll explain later...

Eric out.

Beckoning All Tyberbites!

Tonight I will be unable to attend the gathering.

I have two great excuses.

1. I am going to work several hours on a side job that I am making side money on.

Then-

2. I am going to walk about 1/16 of a mile to my local bike shop (Bikes East) to watch the 16th Stage of this years tour. They are projecting on the wall of their maintenance and service shop! Yeah!

So I ask forgiveness. Not Permission!

But it is my hope that the community that occurs in the dank corners of Tremont and South Blvd will transcend the smell of greasy food and guinness. I love the conversation of the group whether its politics and art or photography and bikes.

I wish to see the community grow into something that can happen here as well!

The History of Tyber Wednesday

So it appears that what once started out as two people showing up at a local pub on a convenient day at a convenient time to catch up and reminisce about what was a horrible company that they both used to be employed became what is know now as the Tyber Community. It is a fitting title for what happens every Wednesday night between 6:00PM and 11:00PM… This is the story of Tyber Night and how it came into being.

It was four days after the twenty-fifth birthday of Mr. Eric Gaddy, which was the twenty-fifth day of the eleventh month of 2005 when one Mr. Russ Zabel dropped a communiqué to him.

“Hey, if you're not busy Saturday night (tomorrow, the
26th), you want to have a couple beers?

Russ”

Eric Gaddy always considered fall, particularly November, to be the best time of the year and that all truly great things come about during that time. What followed was the forging of many bonds of friendship and many nights of merriment. Fate came to pass that Mr. Gaddy was not available that particular Saturday night.

“Hey man,

On most any other night I would say OK to that, but my girlfriend is
down from PA for the weekend and we are heading out on a date. Sorry
man. Are you ever free on weeknights? Those are usually my free-est
nights. But next weekend will work if it works for you. I know we've
been trying to get up for like a year now. Anyways, thanks for the
invite.

Eric”

Though the illustrious Meghan was never really a part of the weekly ravage ritual she did, in the way that only a female could, alter the course of what is known as Tyber. Saturday was still an option a week later but was it to be the real first Tyber Night?

“It's cool, no problem at all. Let me check my
calendar at work and get back to you on Monday, I'll
have a better idea what my week will look like then.
If all else fails, next Saturday sounds good.

Later,
Russ”

But wait… beer can’t wait that long.

“So, how about tomorrow (Wednesday) or Friday night?

Russ”

Let the reader note that Wednesday is in parentheses… fate? The response?

“Tomorrow night works for me man. Where are you thinking?”

So it came to pass that Wednesday was the official first meeting day. But where oh where could these two gentlemen meet?

“I seem to recall a suggestion of Tyber Creek? Or
maybe you just said you lived by it... Either way,
I'm up for a brewpub type experience.

Later,

Russ”

Merlin’s Beard!!! Tyber Creek? Its like a story out of the Bible as if God himself spoke it… though later we come to find out that this God spoke anything stuff was appropriately to be discussed in depth along with politics. Though if Mr. Brian Ficker had his druthers these topics would be best left unpontificated at Tyber Creek.

$2 Guiness at Tyber Creek, i'm up for it!”

What has been laid forth before you is the original unedited email thread for the first night at Tyber Creek between Mr. Eric Gaddy and Mr. Russ Zabel, almost two years ago. The story would not go on if it had not been for those friends that decided to join Russ and Eric for two dollar Guinness and deep discussions about society, religion and politics. At times people would drop out for a little while but all eventually would return. Let us not forget Michael Walker who was one of the early attendees of Tyber Night. He is the man and myth that appears out of no where and then vanishes into thin air for weeks on end. Thought to be an ethereal creature, he is indeed real and continues the tradition of Tyber. There is of course Steve Sowka, the oddity that does not drink Guinness but helps subsidize everyone else’s two dollar Guinness with his Harp. He is one of the strongest attendees and helps keep everyone informed every Wednesday morning with a reminder. There are so many others that you will have to read all twelve books of The History of Middle Tyber Earth to learn about them, such as Nick Jordan, Leslie Martin, Matt Wilson, and Matt Mays. There is of course Brian Ficker who cannot go unlooked here due to his witty comebacks and due to his being neighbors with Eric Gaddy just down the road from Tyber Creek. Thanks to Brian the female Tyber devotee started to attend. She and Ficker have been a driving force and even harassing force in bringing people to Tyber Wednesdays. Then there was Donnie Harris, the man who formed this tool of communication for the Tyber Community.

So in the spirit of friendship, love (of beer and Tyber Creek food), merriment and Guinness, Tyber Creek has endured and grown into a tradition that surely we hope that Maynard Goble, part owner and manager of Tyber Creek will remember. Maynard, being one of the best bartenders ever, has made possibly one of the best places to meet and hang out you could hope for. We hope the word spreads and that Wednesday night at Tyber Creek continues for years to come.
